Children, teens, UCSD students, and adults are assessed for difficulties with neurocognitive, attention, memory, language, academic, social, and behavioral functioning. Conditions include learning disorders, ADHD, head injury, neurodevelopmental disorders, ASD, and mental health issues. Referrals come from UC San Diego providers in Outpatient Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Neurology, Student Health/CAPS, and the College Mental Health Program.

Experience Type

This practicum provides students with a unique opportunity to obtain advanced training in neuropsychological assessment. Students will participate in the clinical interview, obtain training and experience in neuropsychological assessment with individuals from age 6 through adulthood, and improve their skills in report writing, diagnostic formulation, and treatment recommendations. All students receive individualized supervision. Students can also participate in the feedback process.

Consultation: Opportunity for weekly meetings with the Child/Teen Psychiatry team.

Number Of Students 2 to 3
Experience Necessary Fourth- and fifth-year students who have an interest in developmental neuropsychology. Not limited to students in the Neuropsychology track.
Time Commitment Flexible, but no more than one assessment per week (max 10 hours). Minimum 10 assessment cases.
Practicum Length Flexible
Start Date July 1
Limiting Factors Morning assessment appointments are available every day except Thursdays. Optional Child/Teen team meetings are Wednesdays from 12-1.
Other Issues Reports must be completed within 3-4 days. All students must complete the UCSD Onboarding process and comply with all clinic rules and regulations. Parking is free.
