Practicum Length
Start Date 07/01/2021
Limiting Factors Student must be available on Tuesday and/or Friday mornings. Students may elect to attend a weekly 30-minute PSYCH/MAT huddle on Tuesday mornings at 8:30am where a multidisciplinary clinical care team (psychologist, psychiatrists, substance abuse counselor, clinic medical director/infectious disease physician, pharmacists) discuss mental health and substance use disorder care for Owen Clinic patients, including medication-assisted treatments for substance use disorder.
Other Issues Although it might appear that a clinical experience at the Owen Clinic would result in highly specialized training, students emerge with a breadth of generalizable clinical experience and knowledge that will be applicable to other behavioral medicine settings and substance use disorder clinics. This practicum experience will prepare students to be highly competitive for behavioral medicine and/or substance use disorder internship placements.
