The salience of issues of diversity to both our faculty and students is a cornerstone of our program.
As universities located in the incredibly diverse southern California region on the border with Mexico and at the edge of the Pacific Rim, both SDSU (a federally designed Hispanic Serving Institution) and UC San Diego provide rich scientific and clinical training opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. Beyond the basic elements of our program (research, clinical practica, coursework), we have tried to communicate our respect for diversity, and our commitment to a supportive and encouraging learning environment, in many ways.
We worked with the current SDSU/UC San Diego Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) students to re-imagine and re-invigorate a dormant Diversity Committee that is now an extremely active student-led JDP Diversity Committee. For more information about the JDP Diversity Committee and its members, please visit our JDP Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee page.
