Diversity-Initiatives-photoOur program is committed to enhancing and supporting diversity in all areas, including age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, language, national origin, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, and social economic status. This commitment is demonstrated in our academics, clinical training, and research.

While issues of diversity are incorporated throughout the coursework, all students take a semester-long course on multicultural issues.

Our clinical practicum sites provide opportunities to work with a wide variety of populations:

SDSU Psychology Clinic

  • Sliding fee scale to serve members of the community of low social economic status
  • Offers therapy in Spanish, supervised by a Spanish-speaking supervisor
  • All second-year students are given training regarding LGBTQ-specific issues through the SDSU Safe Zones Ally program http://newscenter.sdsu.edu/lgbtq/safezones.aspx

VA San Diego Healthcare System

  • Multiple opportunities to work with elderly veterans with psychological, cognitive, and medical concerns
  • PTSD treatment for Military Sexual Trauma with female and male veterans
  • Family Mental Health Program serves all types of families including same-sex couples and parents
  • Several practica focus on veterans with spinal cord injury and head injury

UC San Diego/Rady Childrens Hospital

  • Neuropsychological practica assess many older adults for cognitive disorders
  • Eating disorder practicum serves many children and adolescents
  • Inpatient and outpatient practica are available working with children and adolescents at Rady Childrens Hospital
